"From Roofer to Runner: My Journey Balancing Work and Becoming a Pro Athlete"

I wanted to share my journey of balancing my full-time job as a roofer in the building trade and working towards becoming a full-time professional athlete. I started as a labourer and worked my way up the ladder by learning on the job. I learned new skills like felt and battening a roof, cutting roof tiles, hips and more. It's interesting how some of these skills are transferable to being an athlete - like the importance of routine and organisation.

I've had to work incredibly hard to get where I am today. One of the things I did was to obtain a CSCS card for working at heights. The dedication to obtaining this qualification in my job as a roofer is similar to my pursuit of becoming a pro athlete.

My typical day starts at 5:30 am when I wake up and run five miles before heading to work. After a long day at work, I train in the evening unless I have a race scheduled. I've trained in all weather conditions, rain or shine because I know my dedication and hard work will pay off.

Balancing a full-time job and working towards becoming a pro athlete is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. But at the end of the day, it's all worth it. Every little progress I make towards my goal makes all the hard work worth it.

Overall, I'm proud to be a roofer and have learned many valuable skills on the job. Whether felting and battening a roof or any other task, I always strive to do my best and take pride in my work.

If you're in a similar situation, I advise you to stay focused on your goal, stay disciplined, and never give up. With hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.

Best David
